Background

A Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study was completed for the Hartwood Marsh Road corridor in 2004.  The purpose of the PD&E Study was to identify and evaluate alternative alignments and typical sections for the corridor that will meet future traffic demands.  The results of this analysis provided a basis for the selection of the recommended improvements to this portion of Hartwood Marsh Road.

Since the PD&E Study, the Hartwood Marsh Road improvements have moved into the Design Phase.  The improvements include adding travel lanes to provide a four-lane typical section.  The proposed four-lane typical section includes two 12-foot travel lanes in each direction, separated by a 22-foot grassed median.  The typical section includes bike lanes and sidewalks on both sides of the roadway.A multi-purpose trail will be constructed on the north side of the roadway, from South Hancock Road to the Orange County Line.

The design of Hartwood Marsh Road has been split into two phases. Phase 1, from U.S. 27 to South Hancock Road, is currently designed to 100%. The plans can be reviewed through a downloadable file here. Phase 2, from South Hancock Road to the Orange County Line, is currently at the 60% plan phase. Plans can be reviewed here.
