Data Collection

Before alternatives can be developed, the study team needs to understand the existing conditions of the corridor as well as the anticipated future changes. Information was collected from existing sources, as well as through field reviews and interviews with local community leaders. During this study, the data was collected regarding the following characteristics:

  • Existing roadway characteristics including geometry, signage and other physical features

  • Characteristics of existing bridge structures along the corridor

  • Traffic data

  • Crash records

  • Geotechnical features including information on contamination sites

  • Existing land use and property information

  • Planned development

  • Existing drainage systems and drainage patterns

  • Identification of wetlands

  • Threatened/Endangered species habitat

  • Archeological/Historic sites

The information collected provided guidance in determining the beneficial and non-beneficial impacts the proposed improvements would create within the surrounding corridor
